• Question: have you ever had to teach a skill to other engineers?

      I work in a university, so I’m teaching every day. I teach students how to do design calculations for things like power stations and heating systems. Aside from that, there’s lots of unofficial teaching in engineering teams that I’m a part of. Somebody might show me how to use new software, and I show somebody how to operate some equipment. Engineers are always learning from each other.

      Where I work we have a big team of engineers and physicists that work on different projects. The best thing about having such a big team is that we have a wide variety of skills that compliment each other. Every day I teach other people new skills that they need and then they’ll help me when I’m stuck on a problem.

      Like Nathan said, engineers are always learning from each other!

      Hi,

      All the time! Engineers are always swapping information and skills. I might be good at visual basic programming but my colleague will be better at something else. You are always learning and teaching!

      No I don’t think I have to teach a skill to another engineer. Most engineers I work with have the same skills as me so we tend to work together to solve problems. However we do help each other with new computer programmes or learning new rules.
