• Question: it seems you cover a wide range of projects. how do you find time for the find time for them all?

      I’m fortunate that I get to work with a lot of research students who learn on the job by taking on a major project. In a lot of projects I mentioned, the students and post-docs do the real work. I throw in suggestions, try to help, talk things over, “supervise” and generally stick my nose in. So I get to be involved in lots of different things. There are still some projects where I do the technical stuff.

      Another factor is that if you get to know a subject well, you can easily apply it to different topics. The principles of blood flow in the heart are basically the same as the aerodynamics of a car. You have to learn a few new things to switch from one to the other, but they’re not as different as they look.
