• Question: What new engineering skills have you developed during the past year?

      Finance by doing a diploma in aviation Leasing and finance. Finance is a big part of engineering.

      As an engineer you’re always learning new skills because we have to do such varied work. No two days are the same, so you always have to learn new skills! In the last year I mainly developed my skills in computer programming (which helps automate testing) and electronics.

      A great think about engineering is that skills you have in unrelated areas can help you do your job sometimes. I used to play with lego and mechano a lot when I was younger, and this definitely helps when you’re putting really complicated experiments together.

      I sharpened my computer programming skills a bit and quite recently learned an up-to-date version of a simukAtion software package I hadn’t used for years. I learned to strip down a model aeroplane engine, do that I could use it to teach students.

      Learning how to use Visual Basic in Microsoft excel.

      This allows you to programme excel to do things for you to help you analyse data. If you get very good at it, the possibilities are endless.

      I’ve always been able to do basic functions but recently I’ve spent a lot of time on it and I am really improving!
