      Hi the Kenno,

The worst aviation accident was at Tenerife airport in 1977 when 583 people lost their lives. As with nearly all aviation accidents there were a number of things that went wrong on the day. The airport was very busy because other nearby airports were closed and it was very foggy. Pilots and air traffic controllers were not able to see other airplanes and so people did not clearly know where others were. Essentially though, one aircraft was crossing the runway about half way down. The pilot of another airplane was at the start of the runway and was in a rush to get home. This pilot tried to take off but didn’t have an traffic controller clearance and when he went down the runway he hit the other airplane that was crossing the runway.
