Unlikely as you need a lot of fuel to operate for just a couple of minutes which makes IT very expensive and personally the suit you need to wear to protect from burns would ruin my clothes and my hair !!!!!!
Jetpacks like in films are probably going to be very hard to make due to the huge amount of power they need, like Sinead mentioned. Something that is kind of similar is called a “water jet pack” which looks like a lot of fun (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=im1iNq02Kz0)
I think for the moment that’s the closest we’ll get to a real life jet pack!
Hi!
Like the others said above, jetpacks aren’t very energy efficient. And if you think about the ones in movies, they wouldn’t be very safe as the exhaust is right beside your bottom! Exhaust fumes are generally very hot and would burn you.
There are working jet packs! I remember one of them (actually, a rocket pack) flew into the stadium in an Olympic opening ceremony when I was a kid – here’s a video. The Martin Aircraft Company wants to sell you one, but let’s wait and see!
Astronauts use them on spacewalks (video). It’s easier (in some ways) to design a jetpack for space, since it doesn’t have to fight gravity out there.
