I basically have to figure out the maths behind how we hear sound, and then try to make an app which will do this for you. When its finished, the app will be able to record you saying something, and then correct your pronunciation.

My Typical Day: Study, study, study. Eat. Study some more.

I’d give the money to the school (whichever school voted for me to win!) to spend on bringing the kids to the Young Scientist exhibition, or a CoderDoJo, or anything related to science / engineering

My Interview
-
How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Hard-working, patient, fair
What's the best thing you've done in your career?
I made a Rubens Tube once – thats basically a pipe with fire coming out of it, except the fire responds to music. That was pretty cool.
What or who inspired you to follow your career?
I got an electric train set for Christmas in 1985. I promised myself I would one day find out what sort of witchcraft was making the wheels go round on their own! Now I know, and I still play with my trains, ha!
What did you want to be after you left school?
I always wanted to be a doctor, but I just HAD TO find out how electricity worked first. That’s what got me into what I do today.
Were you ever in trouble at school?
Oh yea! All the time. I’ve no time for bullies.
If you weren't doing this job, what would you choose instead?
Well I was a maintenance technician in several different factories, so I’d probably still be doing that.
Who is your favourite singer or band?
Too many to choose from. I like Thin Lizzy, Bon Jovi, U2, Queen, Bruce Springsteen, Dire Straights etc.. But I think my favourite would be Status Quo!
What's your favourite food?
My mammy’s stew
What is the most fun thing you've done?
At 17, I joined the Reserve Defence Forces. I’d recommend it to anyone. Sure who doesn’t like jumping out of helicopters and camping?
If you had 3 wishes for yourself what would they be? - be honest!
A 300 acre farm, a Ford Capri, and enough money to run it. The farm, I mean.
Tell us a joke.
What did the pirate say on his 80th birthday? Aye Matey
