Ireland needs to make more renewable energy in order to use it. Most of the renewable energy will be in the form of electricty from wind turbines. There are other forms of renewable energy like what Ray is working on or using biomass to creat renewable fuel for cars.
Just to add to Ashley’s comment. Most of our renewable energy is converted to electricity. As it stands, the power system cannot always take the full amount of electricity produced by renewables like wind because of technical limits. We need to resolve these technical problems before a full scale take up of renewables can happen. Perhaps ways of storing the excess renewable electricity are just as important as generating it in the first instance. Moving to electric cars is one such way. Electric cars make a lot of sense in a small country like Ireland. They are economical to run, quite nippy around our streets and yet they still have low ownership. This is the problem. Many people are scared of new things!
