I work on lots of projects simultaneously. I’ve written a grant report, calibrated a spectrometer (to measure light), shopped around for some electronic circuit components (resistors, sensors), written a program for an arduino and done some testing.
A study to see what happens if we replace an overhead line with an underground cable. It causes lots of problems for the network, but there’s lots more to do to see if we can avoid or fix those problems.
I’m working on lots of projects currently but the last thing I was working on last week was site investigations on one of the sites. That’s where we went out with a team of engineers and an excavator. The team split up to probe the site to measure the depth of peat. I stayed with the engineers accompanying the excavator. We used it to dig trial holed four meters deep to take soil samples at different levels. These holes were taken along the path of the proposed wind farm roads and the proposed turbine foundation. This information will tell us the strength of the soil so that we can design road and turbine foundation that suit the site.
Just a few minutes ago I was talking about a project we are doing which will support wave energy devices under test in Galway Bay. Its a big project that seems to be getting more complicated every day BUT the solution is out there.
