Our body is a little bit like a machine: our bones form a robust structure, which is moved by muscles. Our digestive system is in charge of taking up energy from food and the blood stream delivers it to where it is needed.
We even have a very sophisticated waste management system, and all of this machinery is controlled by a central computer: our brain.
In this zone you’ll meet an engineer using technology to solve problems in healthcare, another creating a machine to see what parts of the lungs of a preterm baby are catching air and another who designs the electronics for infusion pumps used to provide pain relief during surgery. There is an engineer using a microwave oven to kill cells, and an engineer inventing new devices to be used to cure heart problems, without doing any surgery.
