• Question: Are there any colleges that you would suggest are good to do engineering in?

      I think all the universities in Ireland offer very good engineering courses. I did the one in Trinity College Dublin back in the 80s. I liked it cause the first 2 years were general and I had no clue which branch of engineering I wanted to do. In the end I specialised in electronics cause I liked it best. So have a look at the content of the different courses and choose the one you like.

      Hi Adam, I can only say of my own experience, I went to UL and the thing that set UL apart from the other engineering courses is the work placement. 9 months work experience in the middle of your course can really help focus you on what you want to do with engineering. Several people from my course went to Boeing in Seattle for their work experience, others to Airbus, others to what was TEAM Aer Lingus (Aer Lingus Aircraft Maintenance facility, not sure what it is called now) and I spent some time at Shannon Aerospace (which really confused a lot of employers when I went for interviews in England!!). UL also does a continual assessment module system, so you do semesters and then have exams on stuff you have done for the last 3-4 months. It means you are not trying to do exams on a years worth of study, which suited me better.
