We will be able to live here for many millenia if we don’t screw the planet up in the meantime. We sre uing its non renewable resources st an every increasing rate , we sre destroying llants and animals almodt on a dsily basis and globsl warming is already devastating communities. We can solve all these problems but we just need to have the will to do it.

I think everyone is becoming more and more aware that the way we are using the world and its’ resources can not last forever. This is something that everyone has to take responsibility for and try to make changes that will help future generations. It is nice to see space technologies being used to help with that, from solar panels on the roof, to a really cool thing that an Irish company, called Treemetrics, are doing. http://www.esa.int/spaceinimages/Images/2016/02/Treemetrics_woodland_laser_scan

I think that life will be able to live on earth for many more years into the future, certainly way past our lifetimes. The issue is whether we can stop all the bad things we are doing to the earth before it reaches a point where we can’t undo it. Hopefully we can all come together on this and realise that we all live on the one fragile planet and the way we are currently living can not be supported by it forever. Our sister planet Venus is an unfortunate example of what can happen when a planet undergoes a runaway greenhouse effect. I hope that we can all come to our senses before we enable that future for our home planet.

I think there are three possibilities of us not being able to live more on Earth
      – We destroy our planet through our own military capabilities e.g. nuclear bombs create a global warming which is extreme (but then we’ll just all move underground – we become cavemen again!)
      – We manage to travel the stars, find other planets and we leave Earth as the resources have become so depleted and go there instead. I see this as a low possibility because no-one likes to leave home, especially if home is Earth, so I’d imagine some will just stay
      – Earth gets hit by an asteroid of global destruction scale. Doubtful to be honest as we can see the big ones coming months away but still partial global destruction will leave you back to the first point.

There is a fourth. In about 5 billion years from now, our own sun will deplete it’s resources and start growing to become a red giant at which point it will swallow Mercury, venus, earth, mars and some of the gas planets. That is when life will be ended on Earth.

So absolutely no doubt, ignoring the first 3 above, the answer is 5 billion years from now!.
