Hi gummy bear, The darkness that we see in space is at night when the earth is blocking the suns light.

Hi gummybear, good question – Aisling has answered it very well that it’s dark at night purely because the earth rotation has the sun on the other side of the earth. But OK, let’s say you get into space and start travelling far from Earth – will the sun still be bright? The answer is the further you go the smaller the sun gets and the less light you will have. In places like Neptune or Pluto the sun is a speck in the distance and the light arriving is very little so there space is very dark, even with the sun in space.
