Hi Kelsey, I don’t live in Ireland so I am not affected by those water charges, but most other countries charge for water. In Holland I think I pay about double what the charges are in Ireland, so I don’t think the charge is very high…. BUT… I don’t understand how the charge can be justified in Ireland when the water quality is so sketchy. In Holland the water quality is very good, the pressure is good, no bugs are ever found in the water making it unsafe for people to drink. If you are paying for a service, you should be getting something for it, not just paying for the sake of paying.

Water is the most important resource we have. Without it there is no life. It cost a lot of money to store, clean and distribute water. We have to pay for it. I believe that we should pay appropriately for the amount we consume. It is important that we conserve water. Even if it falls as rain every day, as I said there is a lot of work to make it drinkable and usable. We will end up paying for it anyway, whether it is hidden in our taxes or an explicit charge, like Ireland is trying to introduce. Here in Portugal I gt a water bill every month for the amount of water my family uses.

I don’t live in Ireland at the moment and here in the UK we pay a water bill every month. I don;t know a lot about what exactly is happening in Ireland but From my understanding people are protesting to it since it was introduced as a general tax a long time ago? I’m really not sure, but if we are to pay more for our water the current state of it should be accounted for or done in a case by case basis. Who wants to be forced to pay for water that they can’t even use because it would make them sick.
