Great question. Don’t worry about not doing well sometimes. There’s been so many occasions where I haven’t done well in school/college but it still worked out. In the future, people will be looking more at your experience and what you can do rather than your results. I don’t even have my results from school on my CV anymore as they’re not as relevant as other stuff.
In saying that, it is very cliche, but if you want to be an engineer or a scientist or whatever, work really hard. Life gets a lot easier when you do and more difficult if you don’t. If you’re not doing well in school, then most likely you’re either not working hard enough or you don’t believe you can learn it which is not true. 99.9% of the time you can learn it if you persist. Maybe you’ve a bad teacher for explaining, or a bad book, but there’s a million explanations on the internet now so just have to work hard.
One thing I realised when I first started doing this was that it was nowhere near as out of reach as I thought it was -> Leaving Cert, College, Internship and you’re away, that’s it really. It’s simple after all, keep the head down and you’ll get there with ease.
