      “Engineering” is a trite answer 😉
      In my field of Space Optics – we write specifications for the design and construction of space telescopes and instruments. We also monitor and supervise the building of the instruments and telescopes. And finally we also do a lot of measurements and analyses to ensure that the instruments that are built will actually work before we launch them into space.
