I’m a PhD student, so I don’t have a set timetable – my time is mine, to spend as I see fit. I have a good amount of flexibility but I’m usually in at 8:30 and I leave work at 5:30. It depends on how busy my week is, but I often have to work at the weekend or in the evenings if we have a deadline to submit documents to the European Space Agency about EIRSAT-1 (Ireland’s first satellite), or if I’m working on my telescope code and I’m making progress. I don’t mind working when it’s on cool stuff like satellites and space!
Because I enjoy my work, I can do it at different times, or in the evening, or a weekends.
So I don’t have a clear end-time!
But my plans is to work usual office hours, say 9 to 5.
I start at 08:00 and finish around 19:30 most days. I travel a lot with work, most weeks I’m Munich or Cannes for meetings with our prime contractors, travel days can be very long as I usually get back to the Netherlands quite late.
I don’t mind long days as the work is interesting but I really enjoy my summer and Christmas holidays to take some time to forget about spacecrafts and think about time with my family doing gardening, fishing, hiking, swimming….
I have 3 sons aged 10, 8 and 5 and they are far more demanding than my job at the Agency!!
