In my case, I did Science subjects and Maths at school.
Then I went to university where we started with Science and Maths, before going on to more engineering subjects. That is because engineering is based on Science and Maths.

Great question – in secondary school I studied Physics, Chemistry and Technology and I think Technology really showed me how much I like building things and solving problems. I loved Maths and Physics and knew I wanted to do a Physics course in University. My maths and physics grades were my worst grades in the Leaving Cert, but I’m really passionate about them and I know I’ll always work hard in them. So I went to UCD and entered the DN200 Science course, studying maths and physics and after 2 years I chose the Astronomy and Space Science degree. It was the most amazing 4 years and I learned so much. Now I’m doing my PhD in the UCD Space Science Group, and still continually learning!

At University I studied Mechanical Engineering and then Space Systems Engineering. In general I study everything around me, I’m curious how everything works.

When I was young I used to take everything apart from electronic equipment to bicycles…. I was not always successful to put it all back together again though and often ended up with spare parts!
