February/March 2016 Zones

I’m an Engineer, Get me out of here will run for two weeks from Monday 29th February to Friday 11th March 2016.

With 2 different zones, we’re looking for 10 engineers and have space for more than 600 students.

Here is a list of the zones we will be running, or if you want to skip straight to the application, teachers register here: iaeie.ddev.site/teacher-registration, engineers apply here: iaeie.ddev.site/engineer-apply.

Coding Zone

Once upon a time codes were for sending secret messages between special agents. Now that coded computer programmes run, rule and create so much of the modern world, they’re still mostly hidden from view… Until now!

Engineers in the Coding zone could be working on the communication systems connecting companies across the world, or researching powerful ways to make sense of huge data sets, or developing the websites you use everyday to inform/distract yourself. They might use coding skills to analyse the results of the Large Hadron Collider, or to model new fuel efficient engines, or to create the clever apps that live in your pocket… Whatever the field, the engineers will shed light on this critical part of our lives.

Space Zone

We’ll be looking at rockets, robots, probes, and satellites. How does a toilet flush in space? How do you control a robot on another planet? What’s the fastest rocket engine ever built?

Astronauts get all the credit, and rocket science is easy. It’s time to highlight how much hard work really goes into exploring and using space. Engineers in this zone could be building satellites, imaging instrumentation or launchers; keeping astronauts healthy, designing the software and hardware underpinning all this innovation; or using the data collected to improve our lives on Earth and our understanding of the universe. Rocket designers still welcome too.

Thanks to Science Foundation Ireland’s Discover Programme for funding I’m an Engineer Ireland.
