Well the footprint ( the space it takes up on the ground) is pretty small, however the noise is a problem, also you want to make sure that the shadow from it doesn’t fall on a road as it can be distracting for drivers.
So maybe a square kilometer away from people and roads?
It really depends. For large turbines, a larger bases of about 10-20m round base is needed because these turbines are usually very tall. There are much smaller turbines available which do not require as much of a “footprint”. Some can even be mounted on top of buildings or telegraph poles. These are not used to produce electricity for the national grid but usually to power small local devices for example at a weather station.
