      Yes and no. I often build devices that plug into a USB port and communicate with a laptop or desktop PC that way. However, there’s normally a chip inside the device that already handles the USB protocol, so that makes it relatively easy to send information back and forth. If you build a device based on an Arduino (which a lot of my students use) then it has USB communication built in.
