Compared to teaching, typical starting salary is lower, but the upper limit for a good engineer is far higher than for a school principal.
Hours are typically 40 hours per week, so worse than teaching.
Most companies give between 21 and 27 days annual leave, plus public holidays.
Engineers don’t get Summer Holidays line teachers.

I think I’d be viewed as a teacher, covering the same material year after year.
Engineering is constantly changing and I find In always learning something new.

Well, I actually am a teacher, but in a university (TU Dublin) rather than a primary or secondary school, so it’s a bit different. During the teaching term, my job is really busy, but we get good holidays. Our summer holiday is a couple of months long, which is great. However, because it’s really hard to find time for research during the teaching term, I work on it during the summer. The pace is very relaxed so it’s really enjoyable.

The pay is good. I won’t end up a millionaire or anything, but I can pay my bills and I really enjoy my job so that’s all I ask.
