I would say biology, chemistry and math are the most important subjects. Of course having a decent level of English is an advantage too, since almost all of science is communicated in English.
If I only had to pick one subject, I would say that biology is probably the most important since ny work is centered around the biology of bacterial cells.
There are lots of school subjects that are important for a career as an engineer. For example, I worked in the Gaeltacht in Connemara for a while and when I was there I spoke Irish most of the time. English is another important subject as engineers write lots of reports and communicate with many people. It’s important to be able to read and write correctly. Maths is of course important, but the main thing with maths is to be able to understand maths. I was never the fastest person in my class at my times-tables, but I always took time to understand how to solve the maths problems. This is the most important thing-to understand. Science is also important – particularly physics for civil engineers!
