I think engineers sit in the middle between scientists and the customer/patient.
For example, a scientist may discover a new method to treat osteoporosis (weak bones) in the lab. An engineer may then develop this idea into a real product and bring the product to the market. In that way, scientists need engineers and also engineers need scientists.
In reality someone who’s a good scientist would make a good engineer and vice-versa. Personally, I prefer engineering because I think the variety of work is greater in engineering.
