Sooooo… I look at the oceans from space, using satellite data.
In a nutshell, I see how they change over space and time, and for me the most important bit is how one area is different from another. Areas that are different to one another often bump into each other, and where they bump is usually a really exciting place for life that lives in the ocean. Those are the bits i’m really interesting in studying, investigating how changes there can shape and affect the life that lives there.
To do this, means I use a lot of maths, a lot of work on the computer, and surprisingly, a lot of art. I have to understand what I’m seeing, so often get creative with how to look at my data. It’s actually the creative side of science that I really love. It means I can look at a video of our oceans stretching over many years, and make it into a wonderful single image on the structure of our oceans.
