Believe it or not, no. I never thought I would end up being an engineer. When I left high school (secondary school), my goal was to be either a biologist or an astrophysicist. Engineer was not really an interest back then. I only became interested in becoming an Engineer in the last two years. I took a tissue engineering class, and became very interested in going into that field. I also wanted to help people suffering from a disease or other healthcare problem. I wanted to help by designing medical devices that would help people heal faster or a device that would ease their pain/suffering. This is the major reason I wanted to be an Engineer. 🙂
No. I wanted to be an inventor/mad scientist as a kid. I always loved those kind of characters in cartoons and films. It was only later that I realised that most of these could be called engineers because they apply science to solving everyday problems.
I think that if you are the kind of person who likes solving problems and making improvements or even inventing new ways of doing things then you may already be an engineer at heart and not yet know it!
