I am from a small place outside Ennis in Co. Clare called Ballyea. They have a great hurling team! But now I live with my husband, just outside Drogheda, in a village called Tullyallen. My husband is from Tullyallen, so lots of his family live near us which is lovely. While it’s not in Co. Clare, our friends and my family often come to stay with us which is great fun. I love the sea, so I often go to the beach for a walk.

What I'd do with the money: I would use the money to build a demonstration unit where students could see heart valves working correctly, and examine change when they become diseased and finally it would show how heart valve replacements work.

My Interview
-
How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Curious, happy, organised
What's the best thing you've done in your career?
I made new material that might be able to help people whose hearts aren’t working the way they should. The material would help their heart pump blood around their body.
What or who inspired you to follow your career?
I wanted to help people. Engineers often have jobs that allow them to invent or make things to help people.
What did you want to be after you left school?
I wanted to investigate airplane crashes! That’s what made me do Mechanical Engineering.
Were you ever in trouble at school?
No comment!! Actually, I was a real chatterbox so I was often in trouble for talking!!
If you weren't doing this job, what would you choose instead?
I would probably be a scientist.
Who is your favourite singer or band?
Lisa Hannigan- she is my favourite singer.
What's your favourite food?
Crisps- do they count? Sweet potato fries….. yum….
What is the most fun thing you've done?
When I finished my Masters, I went travelling for a year. That was a lot of fun!
Tell us a joke.
What did zero say to eight? Nice belt!
