An amino acid is a chemical molecule that has a carboxyl group on one end of the molecule and an amino group on the other end. Amino acids come together to make up a protein. Think of one amino acid as a coloured lego block. You can put them together to make a protein that has a function. This function could be as simple as being used as a signal to get special cells to come to the area and help heal a cut finger. So, amino acids are very important for our body, because without it your body could not function. Just like without it your cut finger could not heal properly, because those special cells did not get the signal (a protein made from amino acids) that you cut your finger.
