Yes, I’ve worked in Italy quite a lot. In the Fiat car company and in the University in Turin. In fact I learnt to speak Italian….I didn’t really need it for my work because all the work was done in English, but it was a lot of fun to learn a new language.
Yes, I worked in France for 9 months, as part of my work experience for college. I lived in Toulouse in the south of France & worked in AIRBUS – they make airplanes. It was a brilliant experience, in work and outside of work! Thankfully all the complicated engineering talk was done in English, because people from all over the world work there.
I also worked in Chile in South America for a summer in college, but it wasn’t engineering related. I helped out in a girl’s home for 3 months, with a volunteer organisation called EIL Ireland. They organise volunteer placements all over the world. No-one where I worked had 2 words of English! So I had to get good at Spanish pretty quick.
I haven’t worked abroad for long periods, but i would work abroad for a few days every month or two. I’m just back from a few days working in Germany advising on governmental energy policies, and have a few days work in London later this month. Ive worked with companies from Italy (With Fiat like David), Germany, Switzerland, France, UK and many others.
