I worked on a project to try to understand how bones repair themselves after they break. That was really hard because it involved biology and medicine as well as engineering. We had a team of people including doctors etc. We got some useful results though.

I worked on a project to calculate all the energy and emission involved in building, running and disposing of a car (from extracting & producing metals and other materials, through making the fuel, to recycling the car).

This was really difficult as there were thousands of pieces made from lots of different materials a every stage. My estimation model had over 5000 separate elements in it.

A project I did in college using an old outdated software (so no-one could show me how to use it) & very little direction on where the project was supposed to go. It was a good learning curve on how to go out & find information without being spoon-fed! There is always information out there, the trick is not to worry about not having the answers – just go out & start reading up & researching. Things will start to make sense very quickly!

Same as @Katie – using software that was outdated and no-one could help, not even Google! That was pretty tough!
