I did my leaving cert in Slovakia and at that time I had to do 3 compulsory subjects and one optional subject. For the compulsory subjects I had Slovak Grammar, Literature and Maths and as an optional subject I had English. I chose English, because I wanted to go study abroad and the leaving cert results were good indicator of my proficiency in English. After that I did my Undergraduate and PhD degrees in Ireland. And part of my undergraduate degree was done in California.
I did my leaving cert in Italy. There were 3 compulsory subjects chosen for you (and you did not know about them till two days before) and one optional subject. I chose Informatics but that came out as a mandatory subject so my second choice was English like Erika and for the same reasons (although I only moved to Ireland after my PhD).
