• Question: Do you do much talks for your job?

      Yes, I have to make different talks depending on the audience they can be general or technical. Usually when I am presenting in conferences they are technical, but I enjoy more when I prepare a talk to do outreach to general public or students in schools, those talks let me show how passionate I am with light based technologies 🙂

      I have done a few talks at careers events, but have never presented a paper at a conference. It’s something I would like to do at sine point in my career, as it’s something I’m not particularly good at.

      Part of my job as a teacher is to give lectures, so I suppose they’re talks. I also present lectures to other audiences occasionally – at conferences, or to the public. I don’t mind giving talks, but my favourite kind of teaching is in labs with small groups where everyone is building something themselves rather than just listening to me. That’s one of the things that makes TU Dublin different to other universities – the students spend more of their time building real systems.

      Yes, quite often especially at conferences. I do not really like it, I am really sociable and I talk a lot in the daily life but when I am on stage I do not feel so comfortable. Practicing makes it better and even enjoyable 🙂
