I think I’d be an electrician.
My father is an electrician, and working with him sparked my interest in electronics and electrics. -

If I could make a living doing it, I’d love to be an artist. I’m particularly interested in visual art that is beautiful but also involves maths or technology. Over the last couple of years, I’ve done some art projects for Dublin Maker (a maker fair that happens every July in Dublin). Each time, I learn a lot of new technical skills. However, I try to think more like an artist than an engineer when I’m working on those projects and I really enjoy them.

I’m very lucky that through my job I am able to take all sorts of roles. Although I am an “engineer”, I also do lots of work in microbiology, I am involved in education, I work on our social media, I get to take part in fun creative projects outside of my client work…if anything, being an engineer enables me to incorporate lots of jobs into one. In one day I could be drawing, doing maths, making something with my bare hands, or teaching someone to perform a new skill.
If I didn’t work in technology or engineering at all, I think I would enjoy working in food somehow. I love cooking and baking, and love to share that with others. However – some would say that making food is “engineering” in some ways as well! Don’t limit your understanding of what an engineer can do…
