• Question: Do you think that robots will take over the world in the future? I think people should be careful about how much artificial intelligance they give robots to stop robots enslaving man kind.

This is a great question and issue you have raised Aoibhe! The ethical implications of making a machine “too intelligent” are huge. This is why in creating Artificial Intelligence we focus on using machines to HELP humans in their tasks and decision, and not to ACT on our behalf (that would be very dangerous). We also need a very specific measure of trust and transparency so we can decide how much we trust Artificial Intelligence based on how much we understand the process the machine used to get to their answer. And we always take those answers as “suggestions”. Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence is a recent area which looks into these issues.

To second what Alessandra says, science fiction has some answers too about guiding the ethics with robots – see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Laws_of_Robotics
I definitely think we need to be careful about using Artificial Intelligence too much for “judgment” decisions, and these decisions can unfairly affect people in certain groups based on unfairness to them in the past
But robotics in general is a cool field, and we can benefit hugely from developing them further.
Check out “How It’s Made” on YouTube for great examples of what robotics does for us.

Robots definitely will help us in all ways. I don’t think they will be able to take over the world from us as long as they are not designed to make important decisions for us.

I don’t think so (and certainly I hope not!).
But “robots” will continue to exist to cover the tasks that we can’t or don’t want to do!

Yes they will take over… but I think they will only take over the tasks that humans find too easy or too hard = too boring 🙂

Driving, doing the dishes or the vacuuming are things that come to my mind first…
