Definitely give it try if you are interested in engineering. There are a big diversity of routes to go if you choose to study engineering. For example, I did my undergraduate at the electrical and electronic engineering at University College Cork. During the course, I studied electronics, electrical power systems, mechanical engineering, as well as microelectronics. You should be able to find the one you like the most and chose that route for you career.
If you’re into solving problems and are interested in (any kind of) science than it’s easy to see it as a good fit.
But even if you are a bit more artistic or enjoy working with people more than machines there could be something in it for you. I.e. designers (who are or work very close together with engineers), civil engineers, sales engineers, engineering managers etc. are professions that are really important as well but maybe wouldn’t think of as “core engineering”.
I definitely would if you’re interested in any type of science!
The important thing is, that you find an area that really interests you. For me, I always really like biology in school, so that was the route i pursued at first. Now I am doing bioprocess engineering, because I found out along the way that I really enjoy the applied part of science that engineering offers š
You should also select what kind of engineer you would like to be. Would you like to work in plants? Would you like to write codes? Would you like to design a machine? Would you like to construct a building? After finding the correct answer, I would definitely recommend.
