I think so far my favourite project I worked on was the one I did when I was was on Erasmus in Germany. I worked in a research lab in Munich for 6 months and we worked on making nanoparticles made out of cyclodextrin (a type of sugar) that would help deliver curcumin (which is the stuff that makes turmeric yellow) into cancer cells to kill them. It was really cool, I was really interested in what I was working on and I actually saw little curcumin particles kill cancer cells. It wasn’t an engineering project (it was more chemistry) but it lead to my first paper getting published, so I’m very proud of it!

During my PhD, I worked on a problem called “Stable Marriage”. Given preferences of each man over women and also each woman over the men, my goal was to find the partners for everyone such that they are not likely to cheat, hence have a stable marriage 🙂 Additionally, if anyone wants to break up for some reason, I was guaranteeing that there is another partner for them that is also not likely to cheat. Can you believe all this is theoretical? The problem was the star of presentations due to its title 🙂

I had to build my own software system that other people would use!
Now almost 4 years later we continue to use (and evolve) that same system. -

It was done during my Ph.D. back in China. We build the 1st experimental demonstration of a 160GB/s optical transmission system in China. It means you could have 160 people download a 1G movie in a second. well, it was 10 years ago, so you could see how our future might be like!

Well, luckily for me I don’t have to choose, since I am working on my first project at the moment.
Nevertheless, it is very interesting and will help a lot of old people who suffer from leg ulcers.
The project is about the design of a device which can deliver compression on the lower portion of the leg without the need of being applied by a doctor or a nurse. In people affected by leg ulcers, the compression helps the blood to flow inside the leg and reduces the worsening of symptoms. -

I mostly develop apps. The most interesting ones that I worked on were the ones that were novel at the time (no one did the things it could before).
I think my favourite so far was the project where we did an app that could tell you how fast you need to run during a marathon to be able to finish + hit your best time.

I like what I am doing now – “growing” materials for devices that can generate hydrogen, which is a type of fuel to generate electricity.
